Minister Mutafchiev and Taxi Drivers Representatives Came to an Agreement for Legislation Changes 12.02.2007
Large size

During the meeting today between the Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev, the Head of the Parliamentary Commission on Transport Yordan Mirchev and representatives of the taxi driver's initiative committee, the following decisions were taken:

The Taxi Drivers will be relieved from the obligation to put safe belts for the time they are at work, not only for the time of client transportation. This will be not valid outside the built-up areas, as well as in the time when the taxi vehicle is being used for private purposes and not for passenger's transportation.

During the meeting, an agreement was negotiated, which will allow the taxi drivers to refuse the transportation of a passenger, who denies putting the safe belt.

A work group was created with representatives of the Ministry of Transport, The National Carriers Association, and The National Association of the Taxi Drivers in Bulgaria, as well as the initiative committee of the taxi drivers. Till February 20, 2007 the workgroup should recommend concrete obligatory measures, connected with the taxi driver's security.
