The Minister of Transport supported the initiative of the newspaper "24 Hours" and bTV. He put today the campaign sticker on his official car.

We would like to remind you that during the discussion, organized by the both media, which took place on March 28, 2007, Minister Mutafchiev declared that the Ministry of Transport supports the idea for an implementation of the psychological examination of all chauffeurs, whose driving license has been taken away for car driving with 1.2 per mil alcohol in the blood, in case, the violation has been committed for the second time.  

Minister Mutafchiev announced also prevention measures, which to be taken against alcohol usage by professional drivers, accomplishing a public transportation of passengers and freights, namely: issuing of pre-driving medical examination regulation, together with the Ministry of Health. Element of these measures is the alcohol check before the start of the transportation. The carrier firms will be checked more strictly for eventual lack of technical equipment, needed for the alcohol examination and will be severely sanctioned in case of irregularities. Till now these requirements have been valid only for carriers, accomplishing a transportation of passengers.

The Ministry of Transport undertakes a variety of measures to increase the safety on the road. For that reason the number of the inspections of the checkpoints for periodical examination was increased. More than 3334 tests were accomplished and 374 statements made, as result of irregularities. Four checkpoints were closed for serious breach of the regulations in Sofia, Provadia and Plovdiv. Improvement of the quality of the periodical technical examinations is foreseen, which to be achieved through normative base changes and the introduction of a quality management system, according to the standard ISO 9001/2000. The improvement of the technical condition of the vehicles and the reduction of the road accidents, as a result of technical failure is the expected effect from all measures.
