Bulgaria and Azerbaijan Signed a Common Protocol for Cooperation between the Two Countries 30.09.2008

The both co-chairman of the Bulgarian - Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation Minister Peter Mutafchiev and the Vice Premier Minister of Azerbaijan Abid Sharifov signed today a protocol for cooperation between the two countries. Bulgaria was a host of the third session of the mixed commission.

With this act the both countries made a serious step ahead in their bilateral relations, said Minister Mutafchiev after the signing of the protocol. He also emphasized the roll of the transport in this cooperation. The possibilities for enlargement of the ferryboat transportations and the railway line Bulgaria - Turkey - Georgia - Azerbaijan  were discussed during the work sittings of the mixed commission, as well as the acceleration of the program TRASECA and the increase of the licenses number between the two countries.

From his side Vice Premier Sharifov said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the cooperation with the countries of the European Union and especially Bulgaria. He expressed his certitude that the signing of the protocol will create a base for the improvement of the active cooperation between the both countries, especially in the field of economy.

Concrete measures were planed by the mixed commission regarding the increase of the investments between the two countries. They are connected with a regular business forums, exchange of information, acceleration of the cooperation between the business associations in Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

The cooperation in the field of energy is priority for Bulgaria said Minister Mutafchiev. Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will work actively on the existing agreements in this field.
