MTITC with a Public Inquiry about What Organization Should Register the Internet Address in Cyrillic 14.12.2009
Large size
Тhe Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) posted an inquiry on its website about what type of organization should register the national Internet address in Cyrillic. The poll is in connection to the upcoming application process for having a domain name in this alphabet with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

One of the main questions is whether the Internet users think that the government should participate in the management of the Bulgarian domain in Cyrillic. Granted the positive response, there will be a further public inquiry on the role that the government should play in the domain's management.

The participants will also give their opinions on what is the most important component of the domain's management: the lowest price for registering; the simple and quick procedure for obtaining an address; the participation of the Internet society in its management; the competitive environment for the firms registering it; the copyright and trade mark protection; the number of registered names.

It is also expected that the participants will express an opinion on whether the company, handling the technical service of the register, should be a Bulgarian or foreign organization as both cases are common. There is no set rule on the type of organization  either - whether it should be trade company, nonprofit organization or academic institution.

The deadline to participate in the poll is 31 December 2009. Two of the participants will be randomly selected to receive an award - an electronic signature - from Minister Aleksandar Tsvetkov.
