Large size

The European Maritime Safety Agency verified the implementation of Directive 2009/59/EC regarding the port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues at the territory of Bulgaria. The inspection determined that the country fulfills all of the Directive’s decrees and that they are integrated into the Bulgarian legislation. The necessary coordination has been created and the port reception facilities are already functioning.

In accordance to the work program, the EMSA inspection started from the EA “Maritime Administration” headquarters in Sofia. In addition to the experts from the executive agency, representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Water were also present at the meeting.

The EMSA’s inspectors visited the regional directorates of EA “Maritime Administration” in Varna and Burgas where they met with experts and inspectors. Representatives of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company, as well as the ship-generated waste port operators and the ship agents were also present at these meetings.

The report of the agency will be sent to the European Commission for final evaluation.
