The European Commission has closed infringement proceedings against Bulgaria for delayed release of the band 169 devices for people with disabilities such as hearing aids and alarm buttons. In this frequency range operate technologically outdated radio installations used by the Ministry of Interior, which can be set to work in another range.

In June the Council of Ministers decided to provide additional funds from the Ministry of Interior for new equipment in order to release the band until the end of 2013.

Regarding the decision of the European Commission the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Alexandar Tsvetkov said: So far this is the third infringement procedure in the ICT sector, which is terminated within one year as a result of the efforts of MTITC for harmonized implementation and fair implementation of the requirements of European law in Bulgaria.
