Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) called on experts to support the Bulgarian position for the domain in Cyrillic. To the Advisory Council on electronic communications, postal services, information society and e-governance and the expert council on Internet governance, a proposal was sent to members of both bodies to participate in an online poll by the Internet Corporation for names and Numbers (ICANN) for rapid procedure for the registration of Internet names of alphabets different from Latin.
On February 19, 2010 Bulgaria through MTITC, sent an application to ICANN to start the first stage of the approval of the combination "бг". These symbols were chosen by the Internet community in Bulgaria and officially supported by several trade organizations and NGOs.
On May 18, 2010 MTITC was refused to register the combination of "бг".
Now ICANN is holding a public poll at http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/#fast-track-review-2010 in connection with the past year since placing the procedure. The online study is aimed at all interested Internet users and aims to collect views on the procedure. According MTITC is necessary the inclusion of a requirement for detailed and reasoned response by ICANN in case of a refusal to register and the introduction of a procedure for filing objections within the quick registration.
Public consultation continues until 17 December 2010 and opinions can be expressed only on the page of ICANN. |
