Today at the briefing that took place in the ministry, the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications announced that a maximum price for taxi services would be introduced. That became a fact after the National Assembly had accepted at second reading amendments in the Law on Automobile Transport.
In the next three months all municipalities must define a maximum admissible price for the provision of taxi service on their territory, explained the minister. The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications has developed a methodology for formation of this price, added him. It is to be discussed with representatives of the branch and after that it will be granted to the municipalities. The introduction of a maximum price of the taxi services will not lead to increase of their price but will protect the citizens from frauds, said Aleksandar Tsvetkov.
We have discussed the possibility to introduce an advisable standard for the quality of the taxi services, said the minister. Together with the taxi companies we will develop these minimum requirements in the next weeks. In this way we will guarantee the consumers not only the quality of the service but also we will guarantee them that they will not be lied, added he.
Minister Aleksandar Tsvetkov stressed that through the changes in the Law on Automobile Transport it is given a possibility for stopping the underground transport and removing the “informal sector” in the automobile industry. The control authorities will be able to remove the front registration numbers of the automobiles that realize public transport of passengers and cargo without licence. |
