The Deputy-Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Parvan Rusinov took part in online discussion that was organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The Internet discussion was held in San Francisco. Representatives from Bulgaria and Greece took part in the discussion on the occasion of the rapid procedure for registration of national domains in alphabets, different from the Latin.
During the discussion the Deputy-Minister Rusinov declared that the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications will continue to stand up the choice of the Bulgarian Internet community about the two-letter string of Bulgaria – bg. He expressed some reserves to the assessment of the Bulgarian suggestion in a rapid procedure, and called that up to now there were not presented clear measures and methods that substantiate the refusal of “bg” registration.
Analogous was the position of the Greek representatives, who also received a refusal for the registration of their suggestion for a national domain.
The representatives of ICANN declared that from their point of view in the rapid procedure the possibilities for registration of domains in the national alphabets of Bulgaria and Greece formed in two letters have been exhausted.
MTITC will continue to work in close connection with the Internet community for defence of the Bulgarian interest. The ministry will insist on rapid opening of normal procedure for registration of the domains in alphabets, different from the Latin, with clear rules and criteria, as well as an opportunity for reconsideration of the decisions.
