The construction of the second bridge linking Bulgaria and Romania across the Danube will be completed by November 2012. This was said by the Bulgarian Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski during the inspection of the Danube bridge 2 with EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev on Monday.
Speaking in Vidin, Moskovski reminded that the the sum of EUR 26 M was added to the total cost of the construction of the second bridge linking Bulgaria and Romania across the Danube River, as agreed by the Bulgarian Parliament.
A total of 72% of the bridge and 88% of the adjacent infrastructure have been completed, according to FCC.
"The completion of the bridge this year, will allow to fully benefit from European funding" said EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev. Minister Ivaylo Moskovski explained that the one tangible risk for the completion of Danube Bridge 2 stemmed from unresolved issues under the contract with Spanish company FCC, which is constructing the bridge, as a result of changes in the Bulgarian and Romanian legislation after the EU accession of the two Balkans states and because of unfavorable engineering and geological conditions on the construction site. |
