Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Ivaylo Moskovski met with the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries,Maria Damanaki. The meeting was held in the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.
The meeting focussed on integrated maritime policy of the European Union and fisheries. During the event Minister Moskovski expressed his support to the work of the European Commission on the “Blue Growth” initiative. The priority activities of this policy, and ways of financing them was also discussed. The projects can be funded under the new instrument of the European Commission to establish a program to support the further development of the Integrated Maritime Policy for the period 2011 – 2013. The implementation of joint projects of Bulgaria and Romania would also strengthen the regional cooperation.
According to the European Commission, another priority project is the integration of monitoring systems. The Transport Minister reiterated the need of a common strategy for all countries in the Black Sea region, consistency in their actions and an integrated approach in the implementation of their policies.
Minister Ivailo Moskovski supported the proposal of Maria Damanaki for joint conferences of the Black Sea countries. Such forums will provide excellent opportunities for involvement of all stakeholders - administration, business, NGOs, research institutes and others.
