Since April, 2012 the European Commission has launched a new website to promote common European phone numbers for social services. On the website you can find information about the provided numbers and services, as well as updated information about existing telephone services by country: http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/116/index_en.htm. Telephone numbers starting with 116 are easy to remember, free to users and are designed to help children and adults in need. The European Commission has reserved five numbers with a uniform format 116 + 3 digits for services of social value that should be accessible to everyone in Europe:
- Missing children– 116 000;
- Victims of crime– 116 006;
- Child helplines– 116 111;
- Non-emergency medical Assistance– 116 117;
- Emotional support helpline– 116 123.
