Sofia airport handles nearly 3,5 million passengers in 2012 16.01.2013

In 2012, Sofia Airport handled a record-large number of passengers, 3 467 455. Terminal 1 handled 927,000 passengers and Terminal 2,540,000 passengers. Annual analysis shows that international  flights are 90% of the total traffic number, 6% were domestic flights, and 4% have used charter flights.

The average per cent of seats filled on flights to and from the airport in 2012 was 75.7% compared to 75.6% in 2011. The average number of passengers per aircraft has increased to 79 from 74 for the previous year.

Bulgaria Air remains a leading company, followed by Wizz Air Company and Lufthansa Technik.

Traditionally the most preferred destinations are London, Vienna and Paris. Tourist charters are performed by 14 companies in 18 destinations- 10 in the winter and 8 in summer season. Cargo flights are performed by 5 companies. Business flights grew 8 per cent, and international cargo flights grew 5 per cent.Cargo flights have also increased with 2,3 per cent from 2011.
