Bulgaria and Romania will sign an agreement in the field of communications and information technologies. That became clear during the official visit in Romania. Mr. Valery Borissov, Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of Bulgaria met with his Romanian counterpart Mr. Dan Nica, Minister for Information Society of Romania. The current Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries dates back from 1995.

The important issues highlighted during this visit referred to projects funded through European funds dedicated to the sector of communications and information technologies, such as the need for cooperation in transport and communications areas, in which the European Commission has shown, several times,  its availability to finance joint projects. Also, it was discussed the possibility of collaboration on cross border infrastructure and broadband solutions.

Mr. Valery Borissov presented a successful project regarding the smart cards and development of secure electronic identity infrastructure that Romania would like to consider upon with a view to implementing a similar project.

Mr. Dan Nica supported joint Bulgarian-Romanian relationships and strengthening the cooperation in the field of ICT and e-government projects.
