The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov held a working meeting with Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor Lyubomir Hristov and Petar Dikov – Sofia’s chief architect.

Minister Danail Papazov got acquainted with the terrains requested by the municipality at Serdika station and Pioner station owned by the National Company "Railway Infrastructure". The stations are included in the capital’s infrastructure development plans and Vazrazhdane Park is to be constructed in the area. The Minister of Transport made the committement that the process of ownership transfer will be completed in a short terms. The metropolitan development and the construction of the third metro diameter were considered within the discussions. Sofia Mayor noted that the project is a successful example according to the European institutions which support Sofia’s development. Yordanka Fandakova emphasized that the conceptual project and the regulation plan for the new route had already been prepared. She demanded the construction of the third metro diameter to be financed by EU funds in the next programming period 2014-2020.

The Chief architect Petar Dikov raised the issue of the use of state lands near Sofia Airport for the construction of a subway’s repair depot by the municipality. Minister Papazov expressed willingness to assist in the project development and highlighted that the Municipality of Sofia will have his support for the construction of a third subway line, within the capacity of the state in the new programming period.
