The implementation of major transport projects in Plovdiv has been discussed at today’s meeting between the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov and the Mayor Ivan Tonev.
Constructions of railway sites, along side the development of Plovidv airport were the primary topics of discussion during the talks. Minister Papazov made a commitment that the implementation of the railway junction near Plovdiv Central Station will incorporate two levels in its design. Thus, an underpass would divert automobile traffic from the trains’ route. This will underlie into the following programming period for Operational Programme “Transport and transportation infrastructure 2014-2020”
According to Minister Papazov it is necessary to accelerate the construction of the underground passage “Modar-Tzarevetz” which is located beneath the railroad passing through Plovdiv. In the near future it will connect the southern and western parts of the city. The facility will be built in conjunction with Lot 3 of the rail line Septemvri-Plovdiv and is worth approximately 3.9 million Levs including VAT. Scheduled for discussion are the financing options outside of OP “Transport 2007-2013” as funds for this arrangement were not budgeted during the start of the programme.
During his visit to Plovdiv, Minister Danail Papazov inspected the recently concessioned central railway station, the area of the future subways and Plovdiv airport. He said he would analyse the airport’s operation and look into solutions for increasing its revenue. Papazov added that one of the development alternatives is public procurement. |
