Compensation for the loss of "Bulgarian Posts" from universal service provision and the start of new activities are among the measures to stabilize the company 04.07.2013

The Minister of Transport Information Technologies and Communications Danail Papazov presented measures for financial stabilization of Bulgarian Posts during a press conference about the priorities of the new leadership team of the Ministry. The Company reported permanent net losses which are accumulated mainly as a result of the provision of the universal postal service in economically disadvantaged regions of the country. The budget provided only 2 million levs for their compensation and the amount of the subsidy calculated according to a methodology of the Communications Regulation Commission is times more, said the Minister.

Minister Papazov specified the following urgent measures for the stabilization of the main postal operator: development of a new methodology for calculating the loss from the universal service; Legislation amendments related to the clear distinction between the rights and obligations of the main postal operator and the alternative postal operators. The package of urgent measures also provides for new services such as lease of premises to the Bulgarian Bank for Development; Cooperation with the Bulgarian Sports Totalizator and other organizations for lottery services in order to offer them in the post offices against percentage of the profits as well as providing the facilities of Bulgarian Posts for tourist purposes, training, etc.
