Combining various modes of transport is among the main priorities in the transport policy of National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC). This was pointed out at today’s journalist seminar organized by the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and communications in Ruse.

The project for modernization of the railway line Ruse-Varna was presented during the seminar. Its indicative value is 305 714 901,6 Euro and the total length of the railway track is 232 км. The line will provide the shortest possible connection between the ports of Varna and Ruse, as well as the Pan-European corridors VІІ and VІІІ. The implementation of the project will ensure combined transport of goods and cargo from the river Danube to the Black Sea and Turkey and will contribute to the development of the intermodal transport.

The procedure for granting public procurement was launched on 6 March 2013, the subject being “Technical aid for the project: Construction of an intermodal terminal in the North-Central region of BulgariaRuse”. The construction of the terminal is expected to be granted at the beginning of 2015.

NRIC stated that they will work actively for the inclusion of the project in the list of railway projects for the next programming period under OP Transport.
