The 125th Anniversary of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" was celebrated with the release of an anniversary postal philatelic edition. The stamp for the validation of the illustrated postcard was set by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Georgi Todorov and the rector of the university Prof. Ivan Ilchev.

This is the third postal philatelic edition which is dedicated to the Alma Mater. In 1988 a philatelic edition was issued for the 100th anniversary of Sofia University and in 2008 a special post stamp was released for the 120th anniversary of the university. The illustrated postcard is designed by the artist Bisera Valeva. It depicts fragments of the oldest Bulgarian university building. The edition has a circulation of 2 047 units.

In the 21st century, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is not only one of the reputable European universities but also a serious research center, said Deputy Minister Todorov at the ceremony. According to him, the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications relies on experts who have graduated their education with a well-grounded theoretical and practical training. Sectors such as the E-government, the information security and the communications need young enthusiastic people with knowledge who will help the state policy to develop even more rapidly in these important fields, said Georgi Todorov.
