The Deputy Ministers of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Petar Kirov, Anton Ginev and Georgi Todorov opened the new seaport in Burgas. The facility is part of the Super Burgas Project – “Zone for Public Access” – phase one.

“We can take pride in the completed project for the construction of a International seaport in Burgas. The passenger terminal occupies an area of 2700 sq.m. and can service about 100,000 passengers annually. The investment for its completion amount to over 3 million Levs”, said Deputy Minister Kirov.

In his words, the project is crucial for the development of cruise tourism as in recent years there has been an ever growing interest in Bulgaria from this sector. A record-breaking number of vessel visits with about 20,000 passengers are expected for the 2013 season. In October only, three more visits are expected. The almost 300-meter ship „Celebrity Constellation“with 2000 passengers is to moor tomorrow (4 October) at the new port.

“We have to stress the importance of the European support under Transport Oprational Programme”, said Petar Kirov. The project “Technical aid for the investigation of the possibility of implementing an investment project Super Burgas – Zone for Public Access”, which presents the concept of the zone for public access as an intermodal transport terminal, is in its final stage. “We practically conclude the first step to the realization of the whole Super Burgas project today, and we have to join efforts so as to complete it in swift terms”, he added.

The seaport is part of the Super Burgas Project – “Zone for Public Access” – phase one. The project envisages the reorganization of the already existing premises of Port Burgas and the construction of a free zone for public access, which combines maritime, automobile and rail transport. The establishment of the seaport provides for the realization of the concept for opening the city to the sea, outsourcing industrial activities and restructuring the sea-coast industrial areas, as well as designating new zones for public services.

The architectural design of the new building allows for the organization of public events (exhibitions, concerts, etc.) among its main activities and services. There are security systems, CCTV and access control. The contractor of the design and construction works is Tehnomashprogress TVP Consortium. The total value of the investment amounts to 3,298,000 Levs.
