Our main goal is more airlines to operate on the Bulgarian market. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov today at the opening of the expansion of Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport.
"This is the latest completed project in the field of aviation this year, as the realization of the investment is about 2 million lev" said Minister Danail Papazov. In his words, the expansion will improve the service for passengers from the Schengen area and beyond, and will meet the needs of the airport related to the increasing number of passengers.
Minister Danail Papazov said also that this year concluded the negotiations with partners at Sofia Airport concerning the negotiation of airport charges under the new methodology.
He specified that this allows more flexible policy fees at the largest Bulgarian Airport, as it is expected to attract new carriers as well as to increase the frequency and the destinations of the currently operating airlines.
Minister Danail Papazov recalled that for a few weeks now Sofia Airport has a category III B, which allows the airplanes to land at a minimum visibility of 75 meters. Few airports in the world operate in such conditions. The new category will reduce the number of airplanes which in bad weather are diverted to an alternate airport. This will save inconvenience to passengers and airlines and it will not lead to higher ticket prices and service charges.
