The new "Air Traffic Control" SE (BULATSA) airport control tower at Sofia Airport was awarded first prize in the category Buildings with special functions at the National Contest "Building of the Year 2013".
The ceremony of the awarding the winners in the 12th edition of the competition was held yesterday, December 11, 2013, at 19:30 at Sofia Event Center. The event was attended by representatives of leading companies and institutions related to building the best investment and architectural achievements during the year.
When building the new airport control tower of BULATSA, the layout and functionality of the working places, the area of operational room for air traffic services and the meteorological services were precisely considered and designed. The requirements for visibility of the runway for take off and landing were met, as an open space for monitoring the controlled area of the airport was provided. There is a possibility for equipping workplaces for the operation of a second runaway, if one is built in future.
All operating systems and facilities directly related to the processes of air traffic management are double secured in order to ensure continuous and safe operation of flights. The new control tower is not just another investment, building or facility. It is unique with its architecture, and the complexity of the embedded technical solutions.
The project is funded entirely by BULATSA, as all participants in the construction process - designer, builder and consultant, are Bulgarian companies only. The subcontractor of the detailed design and construction of the project is "Glavbolgarstroi" JSC. |
