The first post stamp in 2014 will be devoted to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, according to the plan approved by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov. Every four years, before the biggest sporting event, the International Olympics Committee suggests that the national postal administrations issue stamps and philatelic products that contain the Olympic symbol. The aim of Olympic Philately Program is to promote the Olympic movement to the public through these media. In recent years, Bulgaria has issued attractive stamps on the occasion of the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010 and the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. Traditionally, before the departure of the national Olympic team, a special philatelic edition is presented to the host country of the event. The inauguration ceremony for the Olympic stamp is scheduled for early February.
The stamp printing plan for the new year focuses on yet another international event - the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The sports theme will be continued and a special edition dedicated to the 100 anniversary of "Levski" FC.
A total of 43 stamps, 10 illustrated cards and 21 special envelopes are included in the stamp printing plan for 2014. The "Bulgaria - our homeland" section envisages stamps on historical events such as the Battle of Samuil's Fortress, the establishment of the national guard, the battle of nations near Varna. The life and work of famous Bulgarians will also be marked with special postal-philatelic products - among others these are Vasil Aprilov, Sophronius Vratchanski, Boris Hristov, Pavel Vezhinov.
Postage stamps will be issued on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and India, Brazil and Russia. |
