The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Petar Kirov participated in the informal ministerial meeting in the field of maritime transport. The Forum was held under the Greek Presidency of the EU in the period 7 - 8 May 2014 in Athens.

The main topic of the meeting is "Mid-term review of the EU maritime transport policy until 2018". The "Declaration of the European Ministers of maritime transport on the mid term review of maritime transport policy of the EU in 2018 and outlook for 2020" was discussed and adopted.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Petar Kirov presented the Bulgarian position stressing that the objectives in the maritime transport policy of the European Union in 2018 and outlook for 2020 will increase the competitiveness and sustainability of the maritime industry and job opportunities in the maritime sector.

Deputy Minister Petar Kirov noted that the Bulgarian side agrees on the importance of working closely with the International Maritime Organisation and the adoption of new higher standards to ensure the safety of shipping worlwide and finding joint solutions in terms of environmental challenges.
