Jordan Valchanov, 83, and Veska Todorova, 71, from the nursing home in Dobrich demonstrated the way they use computer technology to get in touch with their relatives abroad. This was part of the visit of the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Kamen Spassov and the presentation of the new equipment donated by the International Telecommunications Union and MTITC.
The specialized equipment and the internet access in the premises have been provided within the framework of the regional initiative “e-Access for the blind and visually impaired”. The financing has been used to build the wireless network, the purchase of tablets and laptops with specially installed software for blind people, printing devices, multimedia and a TV set. The employees at the nursing home have undergone training on how to use the equipment.
The purpose of the joint initiative of MTITC and ITU is focused on the elderly to help them socially integrate, said the Deputy Minister. He recalled that two years ago MTITC participated in another project for financing specialized computer equipment and software for two schools for the visually impaired in Sofia and Varna.
The Mayor of Dobrich Detelina Nikolova attended the event and expressed her gratitude for the support to the residents of the nursing home. |
