The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Georgi Todorov welcomed the participants in the closing conference on the international  TEN ECOPORT project -  "Transnational expansion of the ECOPORT 8 network”, which took place today in Varna. The project has been implemented by State Company Port Infrastructure and encompasses participants from seven other countries.

“In recent years ports have been the focus of major regional transport policies in the European Union”, said the Deputy Minister. He added that maritime transport is an important condition for the increase of competitiveness of the economies of the South-East Europe countries and in particular the partnering countries under the project.

”I hope that the models developed under the project will turn into an important instrument to ensure prosperity of all partners while being responsible for the future and the environment”, said Georgi Todorov. He expressed his confidence that this will be only the first successful project that will lay the grounds of a long-term and fruitful cooperation.

The TEN ECOPORT project - "Transnational expansion of the ECOPORT 8 network” amounts to the total value of 2 284 282 Euro and has been financed under Transnational Operational Program South-East Europe 2007 – 2013. The main objective is the establishment of a common model for the protection of the environment at South-East Europe ports, sustainable development and free market access to maritime transport networks.
