As of today air traffic controllers will be trained with a state-of-art simulator, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski during today’s official opening of the new simulator facility for the training of air traffic controllers at State Enterprise "Air Traffic Services Authority" (BULATSA).

Minister Ivaylo Moskovski added that this is yet another modern facility deployed by BULATSA following the opening of one of the most contemporary control towers in Europe – the one at Sofia airport, two years ago. The simulator has a great potential as it can be used both for the purposes of civil aviation and the Bulgarian air forces. This is a good business opportunity that will ensure additional revenues for the company and will make BULATSA a leader in staff training in the region.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov, the Director General of BULATSA Georgi Peev and the Managing Director of MicroNav (UK) Steven Williams took part in the official opening.

The new simulator facility was constructed by one of the world leaders in simulator production - the UK company MICRONAV. The project was financed with company’s funds under the Investment and Development Program of BULATSA, and the total value of the procurement was over 5 million Levs.

The facility is equipped with state-of-art technologies and is secured with the latest version of software provision, which has been developed to address the highest criteria and standards in the training of air traffic controllers. The controllers will be trained to work in the operational hall and the airport tower, as the latter will be conducted with a special 3D equipment for virtual reality which corresponds to the actual topography and parameters. The simulator is secured with digital models of the main airports in Bulgaria and has a licensed software for the development of other models if necessary.
