“The development of intermodal terminals is a priority for the Ministry”, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski before the opening of the first River Information Services Centre.
Minister Moskovski commented that following the deployment of toll systems for road infrastructure, railway transport is to become ever more attractive. “That is why our efforts will be focused on the construction of new intermodal terminals and modernization of the already existing ones, so that they could have a maximum effect”.
The development of intermodal transport in Europe has been laid in the EU White Paper for transport. Bulgaria has committed to the development and functioning of an eco-friendly transport sector to address the needs of society and economy. The most important intermodal hubs in Bulgaria that are included in the Trans-European Transport Network are Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Russe, Lom, Vidin, Dragoman, Svilengrad, Gorna Oriahovitsa. Intermodal terminals are to be constructed in these places in the years to come. |
