The 100th anniversary of the creation of the first Bulgarian film, which is considered the beginning of the Seventh Art in Bulgaria, was commemorated with a special postal-philatelic edition. The validation seal was laid by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and communications Valery Borissov and his counterpart from the Ministry of Culture Boil Banov.
Bulgarian philately has a special “Walk of fame” for Bulgarian cinema and today’s postage stamp is yet another star in it, said Deputy Minister Borissov. He recalled that the beginning of Bulgarian cinematography was marked by Vasil Gendov’s film “Balaran is gallant” (1915).
Bulgarian cinema has its place in national stamp issuing. A number of actors, directors and scriptwriters have been commemorated with a philatelic product. In 2005 a set of four stamps was validated on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Bulgarian cinema. The stamp that was validated today is in circulation of 11 000 copies and the artist is Prof. Georgi Yankov. |
