Port Russe launches a regular block-train from Bulgaria to Germany 09.02.2015
Large size

Port Complex Russe EAD will exploit a regular block-train service between Bulgaria and Germany. This is a pilot project for Bulgaria base on the principle of intermodal transport connecting rail and road transport. The block-train has a capacity of 68 cargo carriages (trailers) and will operate once a week in the two directions. By the end of the year almost 3000 trailers are to be serviced.

The project is yet another step for the Port of Russe to develop intermodal transportations and to introduce new methods for combined road and river cargo transportations.

We recall that as of July last year there has been a regular container service operating along the Russe – Kurtici (Romania) line. The containers are being transported by combined waterborne and rail transport. In the period July – December 2014 the cargos managed along the line were almost 4 thousand tons.

In the last year Port Complex Russe EAD reported profits of 1.2 million Levs and 670 thousand tons of cargos managed. The increase of the profit doubled compared to 2013. The investments foreseen for 2015 for the purchase of new machinery and equipment as well as rehabilitation of the port infrastructure will amount to 1 million Levs.
