The Biggest Infrastructure Project in Bulgaria Starts Today

Today begins the effective work according to the contract with the Greek firma “Terna” for the projecting and building of the railway line in the section Krumovo – Parvomay. This section is the first phase from the project “Reconstruction and electrification of the railway line Plovdiv – Svilengrad – Greek/Turkish boundary and optimization of the road for speed up to 160km/h”. this starts the construction of the biggest infrastructure project in Bulgaria, whose price comes up to 340Million Euro. the project has significant importance, since it covers parts from 4th and 9th pan-European corridors.
There is a great progress also in the project “Building a new combine (both railway and road) bridge over the river Danube, near Vidin (Bulgaria) – Kalafat (Rumania)”. After the Delegation of the European Commission approved the tender dossier for selection of project and building executor, offer submission invitations to the five candidates were sent. The shortlist participants after the preliminary qualification are:
1. Consortium “Hoctief” (Germany) – OHL (SPAIN) 2. FCC (SPAIN) 3. Consortium “VINCI” (France) – “GLAVBOLGARSTROY”(Bulgaria) – “Mostroy”(Bulgaria) 4. Consortium “Zublin”(Germany) – “Alpine Mayreder”(Austria) – “Eifel” (France) 5. Consortium “Bouygues”(France) – “Transstroy Varna”(Bulgaria) – “Rizzani de Eccher”(Italy) The final date to submit the offers is September 15, 2006
This is one of the biggest and most complex infrastructure projects, which the ministry of transport caries out. Besides the projecting and constructing of the bridge with four roadways and one railways, which is subject of the present auction, the project includes the building of the adjoining road and railway infrastructure, incorporating the building of the new goods-station and seven kilometers of new railway line; reconstruction of the existing railway station and building of road knots on two levels.
The new bridge is part of the regional infrastructure projects of the Stability Pact and its constructing will eliminate one of the considerable hindrances to the development of the pan-European corridor number4, as part of the common European transport network. The building of the bridge near Vidin-Kalafat is one of the main priorities of the Bulgarian governmental policy for the development of the transport infrastructure and an important element from the policy to open the country to the European transport system in the process of the Bulgarian accession to the European union. The improvement of the access to the markets and the strengthening the competitiveness of the regional economic has a significant importance for the both countries Bulgaria and Rumania.
