Sofia Will Celebrate the Membership of Bulgaria in the European Union with a New Airport Terminal

Sofia will meet the membership of Bulgaria in the European Union with new passenger's terminal. The official opening ad putting into operation will take place on December 27, 2006 at 12.00. The Premier Minister of Republic of Bulgaria Sergei Stanishev, the Minister of Transport, deputies, ministers, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and representatives of Strabag will attend the event. After the official opening of the modern infrastructure facility the Premier Minister and the Minister of Transport will meet the first passenger's flight from Brussels. The project for reconstruction, development and modernization of Sofia Airport is one of biggest projects on the program ISPA of the European Union in Bulgaria. He was declared for building side with national importance. The new built airport will service all classes of airplanes. Its capacity will be 2,6 millions of passengers per year with 26000 tons cargo exchange yearly. The new project will reduce the harmful influence upon the environment and also will increase the safety and the security. The building of the new passenger's terminal is 50000 quadrate meters with parking for 820 cars. There are situated the main zones for processing of passengers and their luggage, as well as the necessary technical and administrative rooms. The approach to the main hall departures will follow through three entrances. Also here are situated the roams for airport information, tickets sale, ticket check, tour operators, post office etc.
