29.01.2007
The Contracts for Projecting and Building Executor and for the Supervision of the project "Building of a New Combined Border Bridge (Road and Railway) on the River Danube, near Vidin - Kalafat" will be signed tomorrow, January 30, 2007, at 10 o'clock in Grand Hotel Sofia. The Building of the new bridge is on of the biggest and most complicated projects, undertaken by the Bulgarian Government. The development of the project begins in June 2000 with the signing of an Agreement between Bulgaria and Rumania, regarding the technical, financial, legislative and organizational questions, connected with the building of the bridge. The main goal of the project is the integration of the Bulgarian road and railway network with the pan-European transport system, through the expansion of the Transport Corridor IV. This corridor is the backbone of the transport infrastructure, connecting Southeast with the Central Europe. The building of both road and railway bridge, together with the other planned projects for the main railway and road approaches to the Bridge in the two countries, being now accomplished; this will eliminate the bottle necks and the limitations by the transportation of people and freights. The new permanent connection on the priority Corridor IV will be the only one new bridge along the 430 km. long common boundary on the river Danube between Bulgaria and Rumania. It will be conductive to the growth of the regional and the transit international traffic, as well as the business between the southeast and the Central Europe. It will have a considerable contribution to the economical development of the region. Thus it will contribute to the growth of the regional transport network, as well as to the further introduction of the EU standards into the Bulgarian transport sector. Last but not least, the building of the bridge will generate a significant amount of temporarily and permanent work positions. The total length of the bridge, together with the adjoining infrastructural facilities will reach to 1440m for the road and 2480m for the railway, with a main opening of the bridge of 180m in the navigable part of the river. The bridge has been projected with a capacity of two roadways in each directions and one railway line. The projecting and constructing works on the bridge have been financed by the European Commission with a financial memorandum 2004/BG/16/P/PT/005, signed on February 18, 2005, by the European Investment Bank EIB, the German KfW, the French AFD and the Bulgarian state budget. The supervision contract is for 51 months, which includes mobilization period, 38 months for the accomplishing (projecting and building) of the bridge and 12 months a guarantee period. The supervisor will control and co-ordinate the technical project prepared by the executor of the bridge and will also accomplish the building supervision, during the execution. The projecting and building contract has duration of 38 months. For additional information: Vera Deianova, Press Centre, Ministry of Transport Phone: 940 95 34 E-Mail: vdeianova@mt.government.bg |
