The Central Railway Station in Sofia with New Lifts and Escalators

The Minister of Transport will attend the putting into operation of the new lifts intended for people with disabilities, as well as the new escalators of the central railway station in Sofia. Better conditions will be created in this way for the passengers in the area of the station. Foreseen is also the possibility for impaired people to have access to the trains. The event will take place tomorrow, April 17, 2007 at the central railway station – Sofia.

Mounted are six escalators and six lifts, made in Germany by Tyssen. The construction works are financed by the Budget of the Republic with 1 924 000 Millions Levs and by the Public Investment Projects with 2 000 000 levs.

Aiming to create good conditions for the people with disabilities, to access the railway transport, five elevators with loading capacity of 1300 kg (17 persons) have been supplied and mounted. In the dispatcher center and in the waiting hall one elevator has been mounted for people with disabilities, with loading capacity of 675kg, to ensure the connection of the center with the square in front of the railway station.

Four escalators have been mounted in the waiting hall, as replacement of the amounted escalators and two new escalators from the Rotunda to elevation 0,00.
