First Sod Turn for the New Passenger Terminal of Airport Plovdiv on Monday

First sod turn ceremony for the new airport terminal of Plovdiv Airport will take place on Monday, February 23rd 2009, at 11am. Official gests of the event will be the Premier-Minister of Bulgaria Sergey Stanishev, the Minister of Transport Peter Mutafchiev, municipality mayors, and the District Governor of Plovdiv Todor Petkov. The building of the new passenger terminal is part of the approved general plan of the Ministry of Transport for the development of the airport in Plovdiv for the next 20 years. It foresees the following building works for the first investment stage (2008-2009): • Enlargement of the existing apron - 6 new aircraft stand; • Building of a new passengers terminal - 5000 quadrate meter - ensuring servicing standard "C" according to IATA, allowing the servicing of 1000 passengers per hour peak; • Building of new parking for 80 Buses and 80 cars; • Complete reconstruction and modernization of the electric and lighting systems of the airport providing bilateral electrical power for all airport systems and the new terminal; • Building of water supply and sewerage systems; • Reconstruction of the existing lighting system and building of fire system.
