Minister Aleksandar Tsvetkov Participated in the European Union Council of Ministers of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy

On 17 and 18 December, the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Aleksandar Tsvetkov participated in the session of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council of the European Union. During the meeting, a supplementary agreement was signed between the Member States with Iceland and the Kingdom of Norway. The document was in connection to the EU-US Open Skies Agreement. With this final document, all trade barriers are removed between the EU and the US, as well as between the US and other parties, outside the EU, which are part of the single European aviation market. The supplementary agreement with Norway and Iceland will further the liberalization of the market access. Additionally, this allows for EU airlines to fly without restrictions from Norway and Iceland to third parties. It also allows for airlines from the two countries to fly without any restrictions to any airport in the EU or the US. During the meeting of the Council, Bulgaria expressed its support for the already approved by the EU Council of Ministers of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy "Post i- 2010 Strategy- towards an open, green and competitive knowledge society." The conclusions of the Council of Ministers set the priorities of the EU in the area of Information Technology and Communications (ITC) for the 2010-2015. The main purpose of the future EU strategy is to reach 100% broadband access by 2013. The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Aleksandar Tsvetkov presented in front of the EU Council the main goals of the Strategy for the Development of Broadband Access in Bulgaria. He emphasized that the Bulgarian government has the will to successfully carry the strategy for the benefit of the citizens and the economy.
