The Bulgarian Government Approved the Project of the Legislation on Spatial Information
23.12.2009
Today, the Council of Ministers approved the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications' proposed project of the Legislation on Spatial Information. The legislation implements the requirements of the Directive INSPIRE which aims to create a European Union (EU) spatial data infrastructure. The deadline for implementing the Directive was 15 May 2009 but the legislation was not considered by the previous government. The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) prepared and coordinated the project in a response to the warning for non-adherence from the European Commission. According to the legislation, the state administrations that work with spatial information - transport networks, agricultural, forest and town cadastre, marine territories, geology, planning of territories - will grant access to their information in a national portal which will be linked directly to the European information infrastructure. The data provided will be collected and maintained according to the common European standards which will facilitate its use by all EU Member States. The goal of the Directive for Spatial Information INSPIRE is to support the national governments in the deliberation of environmental policies; crisis management; healthcare issues.
