Deputy Minister Kamen Kichev Met the Owners of Tourist Boats
21.06.2010
Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Kamen Kichev met the owners of sea-going vessels, which are performing seasonal transportation of people, in Bourgas and the region. The reason for the meeting is the new requirements for this kind of activity, which the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications introduced as of this summer season.
We are trying to create good conditions of work for the business but the control will be strictly reinforced, said Kamen Kichev. With the introduction of the new requirements every captain of a tourist boat who is endangering the safety of the passengers could lose his/her qualification or the boat’s permit could be taken away, added the Deputy Minister.
Up till now the only sanction was to impose a fine. The strong penalties, which are coming into force as of this summer season will hold good for overloaded vessels or sea pollution. Patrol boats will control whether the new regulation is observed. We are willing to talk with the branch but cannot allow any compromises with people’s safety, emphasized Kamen Kichev.
