Minister Ivaylo Moskovski participated in the official launch of the project “Kardzhali-Podkova”

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Rossen Plevneliev and Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov gave official start of the project “Kardzhali-Podkova”.

The project is very important for the region and for the development of transport links in the country, Ivaylo Moskovski said during his speech. The road section is part of European Transport Corridor №9. According to Minister Moskovski, all accompanying infrastructure projects will improve the links between North and South Bulgaria and will boost the development of all regions where the road passes.

Ivaylo Moskovski concluded that the project is of high priority for the European Commission and wished success to the contractor.

Information about the project
The section Kardzhali-Podkova is part of European route E85 and it is mainly of transit character. The construction contract signed between the OCAC “Kardzhali-Podkova” and Executive Agency “Road Infrastructure” on August 30, 2011, is worth almost 32 million excluding VAT. The project will be financed by priority axis 2 of Operational Programme “Transport”. 80% of the funds are provided by the EU Cohesion Fund and 20% by the national budget.

The project should be completed within 25 months. The total lenght of line is 34.1 km, 26.6 of which will be new construction plus 7.5 km of rehabilitated road.

After the completion of the road better conditions of traffic safety, traffic relief and travel time reduction will be provided.
