National Railway Infrastructure Company is ready to build the railway infrastructure if a new industrial zone is built in the city of Stara Zagora. This became clear during today's visit of the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, and his meetings with the Mayor, Zivko Todorov, and the Regional Governor, Zhivka Aladzhova.
The possibility for construction of an intermodal terminal in Stara Zagora was discussed during the talks. Minister Papazov said that the need for its construction has to be studied, but one possibility is the formation of an industrial zone by the municipality, and National Railway Infrastructure Company will finance its connection to the main railway network. In the long term, this can lead to attracting investors for the construction of an intermodal terminal through public-private partnerships.
"Around 72 000 Lev have been allocated for the emergency repairs of the roof of the station before the start of the winter season," said Danail Papazov during his visit to the facility. According to him, in recent years, the building has undergone only partial repairs and the station in Stara Zagora is one of the major hub stops along the railway line Plovdiv - Burgas. "In this regard, next year, funds will be allocated for the renovation of the entire building" added the Minister. Stara Zagora Municipality will organize a competition for an architectural design project, which is to be discussed with the local community.
Minister Papazov examined the first stage of the project Plovdiv - Burgas. The track Mihaylovo - Kaloyanovets is in the final stage of the construction and Act 15 is to be signed in the coming weeks for the forthcoming commissioning. The length of the section is 10.65 km (approximate total length of track 21 kilometers). For the implementation of the entire railway project Plovdiv – Burgas, more than 343 million Lev are granted under Operational Programme "Transport", and the total cost of the project is over 477 million Lev. |
