In about a year time the trains between Plovdiv and the border with the Republic of Turkey will be able to travel at а speed of 160 km/h. This was announced by The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov during today's inspection of the starting of the construction works in the section Dimitrovgrad - Harmanli. In his words the section between Plovdiv and Dimitrovgrad and the section from Svilengrad to the Turkish border have been finalized and the connection between them will be modernized by the summer of 2014.
“The railway projects are not less important than the road infrastructure and that is why this is the highlight in the next programming period of the Operational Programme "Transport", said Minister Papazov. In his words the main objective is for Bulgaria to have fully upgraded railway lines in the direction Dragoman - Sofia - Plovdiv - Svilengrad by 2020, which will enable trains between the Serbian and Turkish borders to travel at a speed of 160 km/h. Parallel to this the Plovdiv - Burgas railway line will be thoroughly rehabilitated.
The value of the project for reconstruction and electrification of the railway section Dimitrovgrad – Harmanli is BGN 136 millions without VAT. The construction company is “Terna” AD and the deadline for its implementation is the end of 2015.
Earlier today Minister Papazov visited Pazardzhik Railway Station and announced that in a few days the implementation of the project for its modernization under the Operational Programme “Transport” will start. With the aid of the European Union this project will allow improving the condition of one of the important railway sites in Southern Bulgaria.
Minister Danail Papazov inspected the upgraded line in the direction of Plovdiv - Dimitrovgrad. The project was implemented under the pre-accession programme ISPA and covers 67 km of railway lines and 12 railway stations in the direction. |
