Daniel Papazov: Our main task is the establishment of a modern railway network in order to develop the economic potential of the country

"The establishment of a modern railway network, which is to develop the economic potential of the country, is our main task" said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the modernization of the railway section Harmanli - Svilngrad. This is the "Reconstruction and electrification of the railway line Plovdiv-Svilengrad on Corridors IV and IX, phase 2: section Parvomai - Svilengrad" phase of the project.
Minister Papazov said that a number of rail projects that could be funded after 2014 are already actively getting prepared. For the purpose, 35 million Euros are necessary, which will be provided by redistributing the financial resources in the operational program.
"The reconstruction of the railway track will revitalize the region through the construction of an adjacent infrastructure", said Danail Papazov. In his words successful the implementation of projects, such as this one, will help the country to apply for the purchase of new trains in the next programming period. Thus the modernization of the railways rolling stock will begin, said the Minister.
"Reconstruction and electrification of the railway section Harmanli - Svilengrad" project is worth 146,786 821.75 Lev including VAT. The contractor is Association "Railway Infrastructure 2011". The deadline for completion of the construction works is 14 August 2014.
Minister Papazov continues the inspection of railway sites throughout the country. Ahead is a visit to Nova Zagora, where he will inspect the installation of railroad switches in the area of the railway station. |
