Minister Danail Papazov: The Bulgarian citizens can take advantage of better opportunities to protect their interests when traveling

02.09.2013

Today the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Danail Papazov officially started an information campaign for the rights of the passengers.

With the present initiative we aim to make all Bulgarian citizens aware of the rights and the privileges when traveling within the European Union, Minister Danail Papazov stated. He added that the information materials will provide more clarity for the Bulgarian citizens in cases of loss of baggage, for example, flight cancellations or journey delay and others. In his words the European Union gives its citizens rights which protect better their consumer interests.

The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications’ campaign includes printing and periodical distribution of 200 000 leaflets, 1000 posters and 1000 stickers with information on the passenger’s rights in all modes of transport including the rights of citizens with disabilities.

The information about passenger’s rights contained in the brochure is published on the official website of MTITC: www.mtitc.government.bg and http://www.transportinfo.bg.

The campaign has been organized with regard to the resolution of the European Parliament and the EU Council to declare 2013 European Year of Citizens. According to the resolution all Member States must implement various initiatives to raise citizens’ awareness and knowledge of their rights related to the Union’s citizenship. Thus they will be able to enjoy fully the right of free movement and residence in other EU Member States.
