Minister Nikolina Angelkova ordered the sale of Pioneer railway station

03.09.2014

The tenders for the sale of the real estate, which is part of the former Pioneer station, are to be announced, said the caretaker Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Nikolina Angelkova during the press conference following today’s Council of Ministers’ meeting.

The real estate is has a total area of 37 078 sq. m. The sale is to be carried out through sealed-bid auction at the initial cost of 13 million lev.

The proceeds from the sale will be invested in the ongoing maintenance of the railway infrastructure as well as the finalization of the railway tracks reconstruction.

Minster Angelkova informed that at present the liabilities of the national railway carrier amount at 600 million lev. The main priority in the railway sector is still the negotiations with the creditors and the receipt of a positive answer from EC DG Competition on granting some 170 million lev to Holding BDZ EAD. Minister Angelkova will be in Brussels tomorrow to discuss the issue with representatives of the European Commission.

Minister Angelkova said that the project for construction of an intermodal terminal in Varna will be suspended due to the fact that by 15 September the public procurement will not be finalized and no contractor will be selected. The project is being financed under the Public Investment Program “Growth and sustainable development of the regions” and all projects, whose contracts are not signed by mid-September, will be suspended. This is part of the measures of the government for optimization of the state budget.
