Minister Ivaylo Moskovski: The construction of the underground is a good example of the cooperation between institutions

The construction of Sofia underground is a good example of the cooperation between institutions, said the Minister of Transport, information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski at the opening ceremony of the new section of the underground to the Business Park in Mladost 4 residential area with three new stations.

“Let us wish for the same manner of working during the next programing period, when the budget for the third metro diameter is about 800 million levs”, added Minister Moskovski. The project readiness of the section between Yanko Sakazov, Blvd. and Krasno Selo residential area has progressed and following the tender procedures the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications can start financing the construction works.

Ivaylo Moskovski recalled that Sofia underground has been ranked by the European Commission among the Top 10 infrastructure projects. Under Operational Program Transport some 79 million levs have been allocated to the expansion of the underground to the Business Park, which makes the investments under the Program reach 215 million levs for the latest expansion.

Over 1 billion levs have been invested in the expansion of the first metro diameter and the construction of the whole of the second diameter, as 20 new stations and 21 kilometers of lines have been constructed. The total length of the lines is 39 km with the total of 34 stations.

Among the official guests of the opening ceremony were the EC Vice-President for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva, President Rossen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, the Minister of Environment and Waters Ivelina Vasileva, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, the Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov, and the Executive Director of Metropoliten EAD Stoyan Bratoev.
