Over 500 representatives of governments and civil society to participate in the European Forum on Internet Governance in Sofia

Over 500 representatives of governments, business, civil society, research organizations and universities will participate in the European Dialogue on Internet governance (EuroDIG 2015) on 4 and 5 June 2015 and the accompanying regional event 3 June. About 200 of those registered are from Bulgaria and the rest are representatives of countries from around the world. The development and challenges before Internet governance will be discussed at the renowned event.

The first regional forum on Internet governance in Southeastern Europe began on June 3, 2015 at 9.00 am. at the Hotel Marinella, Sofia. Participants will be welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borissov. The purpose of the event is to encouraged representatives in the region to participate in the global Internet governance. Among the topics to be discussed are the human rights of Internet users and registering Internet names in their native language. The slogan of the initiative is "Internet governance of all stakeholders: from the global debate to the reality in Southeast Europe”.

The official opening of the European Dialogue on Internet governance is June 4, 2015 at 9:00 am. Hotel Marinella, Sofia. Deputy Minister Valeri Borissov will open the debate on Single Digital Market. Development of new media and the new type of journalism are also the focus of discussions. Among the other issues that will be discussed is the European reform in the field of copyright and challenges of the cross-border nature of the Internet and the application of national laws. The motto of the event is "Let’s develop the Internet together!"

On June 5, 2015, the Forum will continue with a statement by the Foreign Minister of Estonia Kate Pentus-Rosimannus. A major focus in the discussion panels will be cybersecurity, data protection and new internet services. Participants will discuss ways to facilitate access of broader social groups to the global network.

The organizer of the forum is UNICART and the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications is an institutional partner. The event is held every year as a European version of the Global Forum on Internet Governance (IGF).
