The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski asked the Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc for assistance regarding the situation at the Bulgarian-Greek border. Through the official letter sent today, Minister Ivaylo Moskovski expressed the serious concern of the Bulgarian side in relation to the long retention of Bulgarian heavy vehicles at the border crossing-points between Bulgaria and Greece.
Minister Moskovski informed the Commissioner for Тransport Violeta Bulc that the unauthorized actions of the Greek authorities cause significant economic damages to the Bulgarian hauliers. They owe compensations as contract forfeits because of the delay of goods deliveries. From the blockade suffer the most Bulgarian hauliers as there are many cases of transportations of perishable goods with defined shelf life and transportation, the validity of which has expired or will expire in the coming days.
Minister Moskovski is adamant that the closing of the border causes serious obstacles to free movement of goods and people, wherefore Bulgaria asked persistently to be ensured at least one permanent transportation corridor for transit passing of Bulgarian hauliers to and through the territory of Greece. The Minister asked Commissioner Bulc to pay attention to the competent Greek authorities that such a situation affects the basic rights of EU citizens and fundamental principles of the Single EU market as well as all consequences for the violators of these rights emerging under the provisions of Regulation (EC) № 2679/98. |
