The one hundred and seventy-fifth anniversary of Hristo Botev’s birth is an occasion to reconsider once again his heroic cause, exciting poetry and emblematic journalism. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimir Papukchiyski during the validation of a postage stamp dedicated to the national hero. The postage stamp was validated by the Vice-President of the National Assembly Nikola Minchev, the Deputy Minister of Culture Plamen Slavov, the President of “Hristo Botyov” Foundation Boyan Botyiov and the Director of "Bulgarian Posts" Filip Aleksiev.
Hristo Botev is the first Bulgarian revolutionary to appear on a postage stamp, recalled Deputy Minister Papukchiyski. In 1926, the 50th anniversary of the poet and revolutionary's death was marked by a set of three postage stamps.
Over the years, Botev's portrait has been artistically interpreted by some of the most prominent Bulgarian artists. More than 20 postage stamps and postal philatelic items have been issued.
The artist of the postal philatelic edition validated today is Emilio Borata. He depicted the Botev’s monument in Vratsa and added his creative interpretation of the symbol of Bulgarian strength and fighting spirit - the lion.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications temporarily provided the National Assembly with a series of stamps from the past decades dedicated to Botev which will be in Parliament for a week.
