We are working to implement projects that will facilitate the process of building sustainable and greener ports. In this way Bulgarian ports will become strategic hubs for green energy, trade and distribution. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Mihneva-Natova during an event on the project ‘EALING — European flagship action for cold ironing in ports’, which takes place today in Burgas.
She pointed out that the ambitious goal of the European Green Deal is to prepare the transition to zero greenhouse gas emissions.
‘The state's efforts are aimed at reducing pollution generated by vessels in ports and bringing them in line with EU environmental policies,’ the Deputy Minister said.
Anna Natova added that ports are increasingly important clusters of industry and the blue economy. ‘The use of electricity by ships when in European ports is a major challenge for building a more competitive and sustainable TEN-T maritime network. Powering ships from shore is a good solution to reduce pollution generated by vessels in European Union ports,’ Natova noted.
Within the framework of the project, conceptual designs and technical documentation will be prepared for the necessary port equipment to be built in the future.
