Anna Natova: The deepening of the port of Burgas will open doors for larger cargo ships

The deepening of the port of Burgas will open the doors to receive some of the largest ships and increase its capacity and attractiveness. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova during the presentation of the activities of the project for capital dredging between the port terminals in Burgas.

‘This is another large-scale project of the State Enterprise ‘Port Infrastructure’ in the sea town, but also their first project under the new Transport Connectivity Programme 2021—2027’, said Anna Natova. ‘Every investment in a strategic site like the port of Burgas contributes to the economic progress not only here, but also for the country’, she noted. In her words, the implementation of the project, which is worth 70 million leva, will make the port extremely competitive.

The project ‘Capital dredging — basin between Terminal ‘Burgas West’ and Terminal ‘Burgas East 2/2A/’ is a deepening of the water area in the port to achieve new design depths. This will allow the handling of ships up to 260 m in length, 32 m in beam, 14.5 m draft and 80,000 tonnes DWT and the use of existing cargo handling facilities so that around 100,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) can be handled additionally.
